The Healing Journey
Our
BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Cancer Information and
Outreach Project is unfunded at the moment so its information
and support activities are, for the time being, not available.
We have two well-established support groups specifically for members of Asian communities and for members of African Caribbean communities and new members can join at any time.
The groups meet on a monthly basis co-ordinated by group leaders, Nazira Visram for the Asian Cancer Support Group and Rose Thompson for the African Caribbean Support Group.
Both groups offer a safe environment in which to exchange experiences and to develop a network of support. The groups also provide opportunities to discuss living with cancer and its effects, and help members to identify solutions to practical problems.
As well as the group meetings and social events, group members have taken part in the following events over the last 18 months:
A group member who presented at the national conference on the work of the African Caribbean Support Group said that group had "enabled me to grow in confidence. I have now adopted a more positive self-image and gained greater value about life in general".
If you are interested in joining one of the groups, please go to our Diary page for details of when the next meetings are.
If you would like to host a cancer awareness outreach event in your community, church, faith group or business, please contact 020 7924 3924.
