The Healing Journey

Courses to develop calmness, confidence and wholeness.

General

Below are comments from Centre users:

"Overall the service I have had has been excellent - but it is the human contact that helps most. The Centre offers a lot of that."

"I am very grateful to the Centre. It really helped me through the shock, isolation and horror of having cancer. It was a warm and comfortable place to go, to be rebuilt following cancer's demolition physically and psychologically."

"The Centre has been an invaluable support at a time when I needed it, especially the practical advice from the Information Officer and other members of staff who just listened to what I needed to say at a time when I needed to be heard.

Cancer and its treatment can cause chaos in a person's life so there is a definite need for a centre like this one. My experience is that hospitals cannot provide these unique services. The Centre is a lifeline."

"The therapies helped, especially the counselling. Because of the confidence I gained, I went on to do yoga locally, attend a college course and do volunteer work in a charity shop. By occupying my time, this in itself was a therapy, but I would not have tried to lead a normal life without the start I had at the Centre."

Healing and massage were very relaxing and took the stress of the situation down. Relaxation and visualisation techniques allowed me to take control of my own recovery and counselling was most important.

I believe that Paul's Cancer Support Centre is the best organisation there is and provides invaluable support to cancer sufferers."

"It's difficult to describe the grief and fear and the sense of bewilderment and helplessness that I experienced at the time of my diagnosis of breast cancer. At the end of my treatment, I went to the Centre and will not readily forget walking into that extra-ordinary combination of calmness and vitality.

I was met with great warmth and sensitivity and was given time, space and choice, I was also, very importantly I think, helped to find ways of helping myself and getting in control of things again. It was a completely transformative experience."

"I am writing to thank you all for the wonderful help and support you provided for my cousin and his family through what was the most devastating time I have ever seen a family go through."

"I attended the Centre when I was unwell and at a particularly low point in my life. I would not have coped with the illness without the counselling and support I received.

The professional, caring support I was given is something that friends and family, however sympathetic they may be, cannot provide and I found it vital to my recovery."
